Birchbox Wishlist

A few days ago I opened my inbox to find some exciting news– after attending the Delivery Man screening courtesy of Birchbox last week I was selected to receive a Birchbox gift card! (I guess they liked my twitpic of my boyfriend and I waiting for the show to start.) I am beyond excited and thankful to Birchbox for these pennies from heaven. Since I found out the good news I’ve been trolling the Birchbox site trying to decide what to order, and because I’m not spending my own hard earned cash I figured this was the perfect opportunity to be a little extravagant and pick up some luxury items I wouldn’t normally buy for myself. Here’s what I’m eyeing so far…

Birchbox Wishlist

Have you tried any of these products? They all came as recommendations from my favorite beauty bloggers and vloggers, so I’m pretty confident I’ll enjoy them all. If you have any suggestions of things you’ve loved from your monthly Birchbox (or that can be purchased in their shop) please let me know! With the holidays coming I’ve put myself on a bit of a low-buy (not quite a no-buy, but trying to really reign it in), so this little gift from Birchbox couldn’t have come at a better time. I’m excited to try out some new products and report back on what I love and what’s really worth the hype. See you back here tomorrow for the Weekend Wrap-up. Until then…

Skincare Staples: Purpose Dual Treatment Moisture Lotion (SPF 15)

Here comes Part 2 of my Skincare Staples series, where I tell you more about the products I’m loving in a quest to revamp and streamline my current skincare regime. To learn more about the first product I featured, Boots Botanics Hot Cloth Cleansing Balm, click here. This time around I’m featuring the Dual Treatment Moisture Lotion with SPF 15 by Purpose.

purpose

This moisturizer is  the only product that has survived my skincare shakeup and made it through to the other side. I’ve actually been using it consistently for almost four years, and am so satisfied with its performance and price that I haven’t gone looking for a replacement yet. With a medium-thick consistency (I’d say right in the middle between your lightweight body milks and thick body butters), this lotion goes on smooth and absorbs quickly. It’s free of oil and fragrance (although I do detect a faint sunscreen smell) and is hypoallergenic. I’m happy to report that I have never once experienced issue with redness, irritation, or breakouts from this product. The bottle comes in a generous 4 oz. size that takes me at least a few months to go through, and has a convenient pump top that keeps from wasting product and can be set to “closed” for when you’re traveling.   I appreciate the built in SPF, but I suppose if I had to make one complaint it would be the SPF level, as I really would prefer higher protection. If I’m  going to be outside for more than a few minutes in the middle of the day I’ll layer my Neutrogena facial sunscreen just to be safe. Overall I would recommend this product to anyone with dry, combination, or slightly oily skin who is looking for an affordable moisturizer available at the drugstore that contains sun protection.

What’s your current favorite facial lotion? It will be tough to get me to stray from this long-time favorite, but I’m always in the market to experiment and see what might help me to achieve an even more radiant complexion. Leave me a comment with what you’re loving at the moment!
