As usual my local Harmon’s is a great place to find the latest products released at the drugstore. My last trip was no exception, when I stumbled upon a display of the new Wet ‘n Wild Megaslicks Balm Stains. Like the other chubby lip crayons we’ve come to love from Revlon, Maybelline, Clinique, and others, this pencil features a a twist-up pointed tip that makes application a breeze. Even for Wet ‘n Wild I was impressed at this product’s low price– just $2.29 with a stick-on $1 off coupon, bringing the total down to $1.29 per balm stain. Although I have enough chubby lip crayons to last me a lifetime, at that price I couldn’t say no buying just one to give it a try.
Wet ‘n Wild Megaslicks Balm Stain in 124 Lady and the Vamp (sorry the photo shows the French side, but you get the idea!)
Lady and the Vamp (124) is a lovely berry shade, perfect for the fall and winter months. The formula goes on sheer, but can be built up for more shine and opacity, as you can see in the swatch on the left. There is no discernible taste or smell, which I appreciate, and the color lasts without getting dry or patchy for several hours. Lady and the Vamp has no shimmer or glitter, but a few other colors in the display I saw looked like they might have a slight pearly finish. My only complaint is the lack of staining power, as I expected a deep, rich color to be left behind by this berry shade, and instead my lips just have a light pink wash when the product has entirely worn off. For a product that costs a small fraction of the other chubby lip crayons on the market though, the Wet ‘n Wild Megaslicks Balm Stain is definitely worth a try.
Have you seen the Megaslicks Balm Stains in your local drugstores yet? If I can find another display (the one at my Harmon’s was pretty picked over) with the $1 off coupons I will definitely pick up a few more shades. I also think these would make great little stocking stuffers for your make-up loving family and friends. If you’ve tried out the Megaslicks Balm Stains leave a comment and let me know if you’re loving them as much as I am!
When I stopped by Harmon’s today to return the Maybelline Color Elixir that I wasn’t so thrilled with (see more in my post here), I did a quick pass through the aisle where they display new releases and limited edition products, and would you believe it, the Maybelline Fall 2013 Gilded In Gold collection had just been put out!
I wasn’t too interested in the new blushes and lipsticks featured, but I was dying to get my hands on the limited edition MATTE Color Tattoos. The collection features a rich dark brown, yellow-beige, and mauve-pink, all perfect for wear on their own or as shadow bases. I’m sure you could also use the dark brown as a liner, so it’s really a multitasker. I decided to exercise a bit of self-restraint (and pay it forward to my fellow limited edition makeup hunters out there by not cleaning out the whole display) and only purchased the Color Tattoo in Shade 250 Nude Pink.
I won’t go too in depth, as most of us have tried the Color Tattoos before and are familiar with their creamy texture and amazing staying power. Nude Pink is just a shade or two darker than my skintone (very fair with pink undertones), but you can see in the lower portion of the swatch where I blended the product out a bit it was virtually undetectable. I’ve had my eye on the cult classic MAC Paint Pot in Painterly for a while, but I think Nude Pink is the perfect drugstore dupe that will keep me from shelling out the extra bucks for a Paint Pot for now.
Looks like I’ve successfully hunted down (although not much of a hunt, since this new Harmon’s is so awesome) all of the Fall 2013 new and limited edition products I’ve been eyeing. Any ideas of what I should add to my wishlist now? Let me know in the comments section!
Just a quick update to confirm that my hunch was correct, and the new Harmon Face Values store that opened a few blocks away was indeed a goldmine of recently released and limited edition products! I was able to pick up the new Revlon Colorburst Matte and Lacquer balms and the new Maybelline Color Elixir liquid lip balms. There was also a display with several shades left of the limited edition L’oreal Color Riche La Laque and Le Matte lip colors (see my review/swatches here), but I restrained myself since I already own four and was picking up quite a few new lippies on this trip. They also had a large display of Halloween makeup and 2 full aisles of nail polishes that included quite a few new fall collections, but again, I held back.
I’ll post swatches and my first impressions tomorrow, so check back soon!
